Robert Breer exhibition.

I visited the Balticmill gallery in Newcastle yesterday and was suprised to see that there was a Robert Breer exhibition on the top three floors. Apparently this is the most comprehensive collection of his work ever exhibited and shows a full range of works beginning with his early abstract paintings inspired by his personal hero Piet Mondrian (http://www.pietmondrian.org/). Following this, the exhibition shows a good range of Breer's animation perhaps the most famous aspect of his work, showcasing his early development in stop-frame animation, through to his later animations where he uses a combination of photographic imagery but also visuals in a wide variety of different media. On the top top floor there in the main gallery space Breer's floating sculptures are exhibited, this is a combination of different objects which at first appear static but when viewed closely can be seen to be moving slowly around the space, keeping the staff busy when they get stuck on the walls.

This exhibition is too good an opportunity to be missed by anyone not only as it showcases an artists full career but also because it is accessible whether you are interested in abstraction, animation or just strong graphic imagery. The exhibition is running until the 25th of September.

Spent some money on the Bobby J and invested in some new bars/tape and stem, so I thought I would chuck some photies up, and yes it is an unhealthy obsession, and no i'm not going to stop!

Julia Rothman

Inspiring work and an interesting   http://grainedit.com/2010/11/02/julia-rothman-interview/ interview with illustrator Julia Rothman in Grain Edit magazine at the moment. Also a good link showing a proper ghetto way to produce seamless patterns using handrawn sketches...

Glastonbury Panoramics...

Seeing as it's just been that time of the year again and Glasto isn't going to be on next year I figured I would post some old Glasto photos from 2010 to remind myself why I need to get to at least one festival this year and stop being slack!

Olly Moss, Star Wars posters...

I just can't get enough of Olly Mosses Star Wars posters, I saw them a while back and was totally blown away by them to the extent that i still keep showing them to my friends who share love of the Star Wars films and they still continue to inspire me, a really fresh approach, whilst still keeping the type and imagery and colour palette in tradition with the films. Love it.

Portfolio layout.

Finally got the imagery and type laid out for my portfolio. I set up a lightbox for the product shots which I wanted to be vivid and light, to stand out from the black background. The portfolio is going to be bound using binding screws http://www.butonz.com/BRASS-BINDING-SCREWS-p-1-c-404.html, and blackcore mounting card, and viewed horizontally. I'am also creating an outer sleeve for the portfolio also using blackcore. I will post photos as soon as.

George Shaw exhibition.

Visited the George Shaw exhibition at the Baltic yesterday...
http://www.balticmill.com/whatsOn/present/ExhibitionDetail.php?exhibID=149 really interesting body of work focusing on places known to the painter throughout his upbringing. All of the pieces are painted using Humbrol model paint and so have a deep, glossy look with vivid colour and fine detail so that some almost appear photorealistic. Also on the second floor is a video piece describing the artists process but also a collection of watercolour vistas painted by the same artist.
