Portfolio layout.

Finally got the imagery and type laid out for my portfolio. I set up a lightbox for the product shots which I wanted to be vivid and light, to stand out from the black background. The portfolio is going to be bound using binding screws http://www.butonz.com/BRASS-BINDING-SCREWS-p-1-c-404.html, and blackcore mounting card, and viewed horizontally. I'am also creating an outer sleeve for the portfolio also using blackcore. I will post photos as soon as.

George Shaw exhibition.

Visited the George Shaw exhibition at the Baltic yesterday...
http://www.balticmill.com/whatsOn/present/ExhibitionDetail.php?exhibID=149 really interesting body of work focusing on places known to the painter throughout his upbringing. All of the pieces are painted using Humbrol model paint and so have a deep, glossy look with vivid colour and fine detail so that some almost appear photorealistic. Also on the second floor is a video piece describing the artists process but also a collection of watercolour vistas painted by the same artist.

Narc Magazine continued...

In February we were briefed by Narc magazine along with the students from the ND graphic design course, to design a CD cover, booklet and front cover to celebrate Narc's 5th year edition. Euan from Narc then visited the studio and we all presented our concepts and i was lucky enough to be shortlisted alongside ten of my fellow students. The winner was Stephen Ward from our course with a brilliant concept as you can see in the photos, and he was asked to put together the editorial layout. The rest of the shortlisted students also had our concepts shown in the magazine. Anyway the edition came out on Tuesday so I thought i would grab a couple of copies and take a few photos.

New website...

On with my portfolio site at the moment and I think I have finally decided on the style i want to go for. The style i have chosen is based around traditional hand painted signwriting, which is influenced by a love of nineteenth century type and also because of a book I bought just before christmas which is packed full of amazing type..

http://www.taschen.com/pages/en/catalogue/design/all/05088/facts.type_a_visual_history_of_typefaces_graphic_styles_1628_1900.htm

I wanted to give it a modern feel by using bright colours and so have used a black background to give the type more impact. The site is still a work in progress, but i'm finally happy with the style at least after trying far to many different branding ideas and spending far too long messing about with logos. Just need to play around with layout and type size so hopefully it will be finished and out there before to long.
